Japanese Embassy assists two deprived schools

Accra, Jan. 7, GNA - The Japanese Government has provided 189,846 dollars grant to two educational institutions as part of its commitment towards education in the country.

They are Suntreso Primary School in Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region and Mepe Saint Kizito Senior High and Technical School in North Tongu District of the Volta Region. The authorities of Suntreso Primary School would receive 95,028 dollars for the construction of a six-classroom block, an office, a storeroom, four KVIPs and two urinals.

The project when completed would replace the existing block built more than 60 years ago and would cater for about 360 pupils. The authorities of Mepe Saint Kizito Senior High and Technical School would receive 94,818 dollars for the construction of a Science laboratory block to serve as the Resource Centre for all Senior High Schools in the district.

The project when completed would serve about 799 students from the area.

Mr. Keiichi Katakami, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana who signed an agreement in Accra on Thursday for the disbursement of the grant, said the two schools were selected after fulfilling requirements of the Embassy. He noted that the projects executed under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) scheme, had benefited over 100 schools in the country since its inception in 1989. Mr. Samuel Kena, Amansie West District Director of Education and Mr. Emmanuel Harrison Vortuame, Headmaster of Mepe Saint Kizito Senior High School, signed on behalf of their respective schools. They thanked the Japanese Government for the kind gesture and contribution towards education in the country.
