Jasikan (V/R), Nov. 1, GNA - A total of 61,000 people out of a population of 111,285 have registered for the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in the Jasikan District.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Wise Atengbley, the Scheme Manager said 38 million cedis had been mobilized but complained many of the registered people were yet to pay their full contributions to the scheme.

He said the National Health Insurance Council and the Jasikan District Assembly had given the scheme in the district 300 million cedis and 150 million cedis respectively as seed money. Mr Atengbley said some people were sceptical about the success of the scheme and were adopting "a wait and see attitude". He mentioned inaccessibility of some communities, non-payment of salaries and allowances of staff and registration officers of the scheme as some drawbacks. When contacted, Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive, said though there were some teething problems, he was optimistic that the scheme will take-off this month.
