The information available to MyNewsGh.com indicates that trainees of Jirapa Community Health Nursing Training College in the Upper West region have their 10 months’ allowances in arrears.

Some of the students who spoke with MyNewsGh.com disclosed that they have gone through all the necessary procedures and requirements needed for the allowances but for 10 months now their pockets are still dry

Moreover, the students revealed that they have had a lot of engagements with the authorities of the school but nothing prudent has come out of the several engagements.

However, government through the Ministry of Health released a statement that all nursing training allowances have been paid including those in 3 months arrears.

It is based on this that students of Jirapa Community Nursing Training College think the promise is a fallacy since they have been denied theirs for a long time and they see no nearing hope.

Meanwhile, the government said it has paid “the final part” of allowances due to trainee nurses for the 2018/2019 academic year.

A statement from the Ministry of Health said the monies were paid on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

“This is in fulfillment of the government’s commitment to the restoration of the Nursing Trainees allowance in 2017,” the statement said.

It added that “each trainee nurse received an amount of GH¢400 for 10 months in each academic year to support their academic and clinical work.”

The Ministry said a total of GH¢198.2million was released from September 2018 to June 2019 to pay all trainees in public health training institutions.
