Mr Joe Ghartey, aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has congratulated Ghanaians for their high sense of political maturity displayed during the limited voter registration exercise which ended on Wednesday August 13th 2014.

A statement issued by Mr Ghartey on Thursday and copied to the GNA, also commended officials of the Electoral Commission, the agents of the various political parties, the security agencies, the media and all those, who in diverse ways made the exercise a success.

“I also wish to congratulate all New Patriotic Party members, from the various party agents, to the officers of the party at various levels as well as the presidential aspirants who spent time to visit the various centres for their contribution to the success of this exercise.”

“My visits to a number of registration centres in two regions clearly showed the maturity of all those engaged in the process. I wish to therefore congratulate them.

Mr Joe Ghartey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan, said in spite of the success of the exercise, a few concerns were raised, such as the porous nature of the borders and the registration of some non-Ghanaians.

“These concerns should not be swept under the carpet. They should be dealt with all seriousness to ensure that we have a credible voters register.”

“However, from going round, it became apparent to me that our democratic credentials as a nation are growing strong. It also became clear that our party, the New Patriotic Party, is growing from strength to strength, the statement concluded.
