In the next political administration, led by John Dramani Mahama, the focus on the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy policy will be paramount.

This is because the president and his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have touted it as one of their foremost strategies at getting the country back on track, economically.

With several theories on the exact practicality and effectiveness of the policy already in the public, every time there is the opportunity to speak to, especially the international media, Mahama has had to answer the question, What is the 24-Hour Economy really about?

It was no different when the VOA interviewed President-Elect John Mahama after his overwhelming win in the 2024 elections.

Asked by the VOA reporter, Paul Ndiho, “One of the things that has resonated with the young people was the 24-Hour Economy. Do you care explaining what that means to the ordinary Ghanaians?” John Dramani Mahama said:

“24-Hour Economy is not a new thing. It’s being implemented in many countries, and so Ghana will not be the first to implement it. What the 24-Hour Economy is is that, you provide incentives to the private sector to be able to increase their production and increase the number of working hours, and increase the number of employees. That is what it is.”
