Black Stars defender John Paintsil was granted bail on Friday night after he was arrested by the Legon Police for allegedly stabbing his wife in the eye.

He is expected to report at the Legon Police Station for interrogation on Monday, the police have said.


John Paintsil was reportedly confronted by his wife upon reports making rounds that he slept with some prostitutes during the 2013 AFCON tournament in South Africa.


The allegation was first made by football enthusiast and social commentator Appiah Kofi popularly known as Appiah Stadium in a radio interview on Happy FM.


Appiah alleged that the veteran defender was responsible for bringing women to the Black Stars camp to have sexual intercourse with them and this culminated in the team’s poor performance in the tournament.

John Pantsil however denied the allegation and threatened to drag Appiah Stadium to court to clear his name.


Wife of John Paintsil, Richlove Paintsil is reported to have questioned her husband on several occasions since the issue broke but the former West Ham defender got enraged on Friday and attacked his wife stabbing her in the eye.


Greater Accra Police PRO Freeman Tetteh told XYZ News that John Paintsil also attacked a neighbor who attempted to rescue his wife.


Freeman Tetteh added that John Paintsil is being held for assault and causing harm.
