Joint Military/Police patrol teams having positive impact - GAF

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Tuesday said joint Military and Police patrol teams operating throughout the country were impacting positively on criminal activities, especially in the urban areas.

It said there were indications that armed robbery and other cases of burglary were on the decline.

A statement by the GAF's Directorate of Public Relations said patrol teams operating at Takoradi over the weekend chased two suspected criminals on a Honda motorbike without a registration number till they abandoned the bike and fled.

The motorcycle has been handed over to the Takoradi Police for further investigations.

It said a suspect, who stole a car tape at Anaji, near Takoradi was arrested by another patrol team and was handed over with the stolen item to the Police.

A saloon car with registration number WR 5035 driven by one James Kwesi Dadzie was arrested at the Takoradi Airport roundabout with stolen assorted drugs.

The statement said the patrol team intercepted a suspected stolen car with registration number AS 3607 S driven by one Samuel Aniag also at the Airport roundabout.

The suspect and the car have been handed over to the Police.

It said a patrol team chased a blue Hyundai saloon car with registration number AS 3843 S when its driver refused to stop at a snap checkpoint at Afienya, near Accra.

The occupants abandoned the vehicle on the Afienya-Apolonia road and fled.

A Panasonic video deck, a 20-inch television set, one smock and a necklace found in the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway and Ports Police at Tema.

Another patrol team intercepted a suspected stolen Hyundai saloon car with registration number GT 6251 R in the Achimota Forest in Accra after its occupants fled when they saw the team. The car and two mobile phones found in it were given to the Achimota Police.

The statement said a patrol team also arrested a suspect alleged to have taken part in an armed robbery in a house at Asofa near Ofankor in Accra where jewellery, three mobile phones and 12 million cedis were stolen and two persons injured.

The wounded persons were treated and discharged at a clinic in the area.

The suspect and the stolen items were handed over to the Achimota Mile Seven Police Station.

It said five suspected criminals including two women were arrested at a hideout at Elubo in the Western Region. The suspects and a Mark Four rifle, television set, video deck and jack-knife, which were retrieved, have been handed over to the Half Assini Police.
