The Jomoro District Assembly in Western Region has donated food items worth hundreds of Ghana Cedis to Muslims in the District to celebrate their Eid-Ul-Fitr festival.
The items included 25 Maxi bags and 10 Mini bags of rice and 5 Tins (125 liters) of Frytol Oil.
Mr Sylvester Nuomah Daddieh, District Chief Executive, said the gesture was to enable them have a successful festival after their month-long fasting.
He asked the Chief Imam to let the items reach all Muslims in the District, and urged them to pray for peace in the Country.
Mr Daddieh disclosed that for the first time in the history of the area, the district had benefited from Government’s package of sponsorship to Mecca.
As a result, the District Chief Imam for the area, Mallam Mohamed Sulley, will be in Mecca for this year's pilgrimage.
Malam Zibo Naibi who received the items on behalf of the District Chief Imam, expressed his profound gratitude to the Assembly for the gesture.
He assured the authorities that the items would reach Muslims in all corners of the district.
He thanked Government for considering them this time around in this year's pilgrimage to Mecca.
The DCE was accompanied by the District Coordinating Director, Mr Abudu Amadu, and Mr Ali Jalil Mahama, District Planning Officer.
