Journalist attacked by Robbers

Accra, March 8, GNA- Mr Daniel Odartey Lanquaye, Chief Reporter at the Ghana News Agency in Accra, was attacked by armed robbers on Monday evening at a beach near the Teshie Military range, where a number of holiday day makers had converged to have fun.

Mr Lanquaye, also a Photo Journalist, who had finished taking pictures of the event was attacked by the three robbers, who slashed his right hand, gagged him and subjected him to severe beating before robbing him of his camera and a flash, Digital Video Deck, two pair of shoes and one million cedis.

He said in an interview on Tuesday that the robbers also took away his car keys.

Mr Lanquaye, who looked shocked and tired said the robbers who were speaking Hausa and French, took advantage of the serene nature of the beach to rob other people of their monies, mobile phones and personal belongings.

" I saw the victims being beaten and I was moved by the wailing of a woman " Mr Lanquaye said.

He said moments after the operation angry youth from Teshie stormed the beach with cutlasses and other offensive weapons to deal with the robbers but it was too late.

Mr Lanquaye said he rushed to nearby 48 Military Regiment for help but the personnel on duty directed him to Teshie Police Station, where his statement was taken and was given a medical form to go to hospital.
