A Journalist with a local radio station at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region has allegedly committed suicide in his living room.

Albert Nana Asante, 28, was the News Editor at Time FM in Obuasi and a reporter for the Chronicle Newspaper.

He is reported to have died after he drank a substance suspected to be poisonous. His decision to commit suicide is not yet known.

Information picked by Ultimate Radio on his Facebook page read “sorry for the pain I caused each and every one, but I think the time is due. Elder Wampiah seek for forgiveness. Gina I love and care”. These posts were posted at 12:00am Monday.

The posts were repeated on his Whatssap status around the same time.

The deceased was set to marry on the 18th of May 2014, according to invitation cards he sent to close friends.

The General Manager of Time FM, Richard Gyamfi, who confirmed the death, said they had received information on Sunday about the deceased’s suicide attempt, but all calls placed to his phone were not answered, only for his body to be discovered on Monday.

“We got the information yesterday that he was contemplating suicide. We attempted to get in touch with him but he refused picking all calls to his phone. Then at dawn, we got information he had called somebody telling the person where he was. So we sent people there and when they found him, he was dead. He took a poisonous substance. But as to what pushed him to do so, we can’t tell”.

“All we know is that, he was due to get married on the 18th of May. I am sure he was pressed with issues that were personal to him. The person’s name he mentioned in his post on Facebook I am not very sure who he is, but I think he was one of the marriage counselors counseling him. In fact we are shocked” he noted.

Police in Obuasi are investigating the incident.
