Joy FM fetes street people in Accra

Accra, April 10, GNA- About 6,000 street people in Accra were on Saturday feted at the Joy FM Annual Easter Soup Kitchen event at the Kwame Nkrumah Holy Gardens.

The event, estimated at 60 million cedis was organised by Joy FM, provided the beneficiaries with food items, free health delivery, and counselling services.

Organisations including West African AIDS Foundation, Christian Mission Resource Foundation, Delcielo Opticals and the Bible Society of Ghana offered voluntary services to the street people.

The West African AIDS Foundation gave talks on safe sex and distributed free condoms, while Christian Mission Resource Foundation provided medical services. Delcielo Opticals and the Bible Society offered eye tests/screening and counselling respectively.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Samuel Watson Tettey, Events and Promotions Executive at Joy FM said with the active support of benevolent organisations and some public-spirited individuals, Joy FM was for the past eight years organised this annual event. Mr Tettey said the rationale behind the event was that since most of them normally found it difficult to make ends meet, it was expedient to be sympathetic towards the under-privileged and destitute, by providing them some material comfort.

This, he said would help put smiles on their faces and naturally make them feel at home.

In attendance to provide music for the gathering were hip-life artistes like "Asaase Aban", Miss Bell, and Lyrical 419.
