The Ghana Police Service has debunked earlier reports that a security officer at the Jubilee House was involved in an armed robbery and rape at East Legon on Sunday, 24 June 2018.

According to the police, preliminary investigations conducted into the case show that three friends, including one Issah Muniru, an officer working with the Operations Team of the Jubilee House, set off to attend a musical show which was taking place at Kikibees at East Legon, Accra.

The statement issued by ACP David Eklu, Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday 26 June 2018, said, the three friends, en route to Kikibees, made frequent enquiries on the way in a bid to get there.

It explained that while making one of such inquiries, “a passerby suspected them to be robbers, as a result of frequent robberies in the area”.

The police said the passerby raised an alarm, causing others to nearly lynch Issah Muniru and his friends but a police officer nearby intervened, proceeded to arrest them and took them to the Police Station.

The statement said preliminary investigations established that “the suspects were not involved in any robbery as suspected by the person who blew the alarm”, adding: “The suspects were released for investigations to continue”.

The police cautioned the public against mob justice and entreated citizens to hand over any suspect to the police.
