Former Chief Justice(CJ) Sophia Akuffo has urged politicians to be circumspect in their pronouncements on judicial matters.

According to her, the judicial process is not a political one hence the urgent need to be circumspect in dealing with cases involving politicians that are pending in court.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kasapa News’ Akokoraba Nyarko, the Retired Supreme Court judge said, matters involving politicians in court should be approached on judicial procedures and substantive law rather than impressions.

“…if something is going on and they (politicians) are attacking it, they should be attacked on procedural or substantive law basis rather than impressions."

This according to her is, “because the judicial process is not a political one,” which has “become too predictable in this country.”

Justice Sophia Akuffo was of the view that, “the politicians should be a little more circumspect in what they say and when they are talking, they should talk on the basis of law, rules and procedure."

She said though she does not pay much attention to what is happening in her retirement, “sometimes I may be in the privacy of my room saying you don’t know what you’re talking about, it doesn’t work like that.”

The retired Chief Justice's point comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding the ongoing trial involving Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa.
