The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana has said the country is “bleeding” following a massive corruption scandal which has been uncovered by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas within the judiciary.
Thirty-four judges and over 80 Judicial Service staff have been caught on tape allegedly taking bribes to influence cases in court. Twenty-two lower court judges are on suspension over the issue while the remaining 12 high court judges are being investigated by the Judicial Council.
Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong believes Ghana needs serious national reform to correct the ills bedeviling every sector of society.
“We must accept that this country needs reformation,” the religious leader said on Joy FM’s Christian talk show, A Walk with Jesus, Sunday. “Even if it will cost us our blood.”
He added: “Almost every sector of this country at the moment is calling for change…
“If you are a head or a pastor and people are paying your rent, paying generator, fuel for you and you are so comfortable to the point that you are not conscious of where the church in this country is heading, I want to disturb your peace.
“President Mahama must give us a legacy that by the time he is leaving office soundness in politics is ensured. We need that legacy from him,” Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong stated.
