Judiciary urged to speed up cases on EP Church

Accra, Oct. 20, GNA-The West Volta Presbyters Union of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Saturday appealed to the Judiciary to expedite action on all pending cases involving the Church and the Global Evangelical Church.

According to the President of the Union, Mr Emmanuel Kojo Danku, the litigation over properties of the Church, which started in 1988 due to the breakaway of some factions forming the Global Evangelical Church, was still pending in a number of regions. "We want the courts to settle all the cases once and for all, so that properties can be handed over to the appropriate authorities to forestall confrontation that had started emerging in some areas," he said.

Mr Danku was speaking to the GNA at the annual general meeting of the West Volta Presbytery Presbyters Union held in Accra. He said there were more than ten churches across the country that was still awaiting final judgment for the use of their properties and "we believe that onc e the court rules on the cases there would be peace in these areas". Mr. Danku appealed to all residents to strive to maintain a clean and healthy environment, especially during the upcoming African Cup of Nation to be hosted by Ghana. "Our environment, our attitude and our hospitality would all be observed by the foreigners who would be coming to our dear nation and it is important that we put up our best to maintain the good image others have of our dear nation," he said. Mr Danku said the way refuse were being disposed of lately should be of concern to all, especially with respect to the dumping of plastic sachets waste indiscriminately. Mr Danku also appealed to the Christian community to set examples to the unbelievers in all they do, and especially through dressing. "It is rather unfortunate that although there are a large number of people, especially the youth calling themselves Christians, their way of dressing does not reflect their religious beliefs," he said, adding that "The kind of dressings we see these days are not that of the calling of a Christian".

He urged all to dress appropriately, making sure that all parts of the body that needed to be covered were covered at all times. He urged the presbyters to be in the forefront of the crusade for ensuring a clean environment in at all times, and also set examples for the youth in the way of dressing. Twenty-six new officers from Akosombo, Asamankese, New Tafo and Somanya, all in the Eastern Region were inducted into the Union.
