Kumasi, March 11, GNA - Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has appealed to staff of the Judicial Service to be vibrant, frank and objective in the discharge of their duties to ensure the rule of law and respect for human rights.
In a speech read on his behalf he said the judiciary, as torchbearers of justice, should always uphold and defend social justice to enable the masses to fully participate in the democratic processes and accelerate the socio-economic development of the nation.
Mr Boafo was speaking on the theme, "The Role of the Legal Profession in Perpetuating Democratic Governance" at the second annual faculty week celebration of the Law Students Union of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Thursday.
"The judicial process should not be infested with bribery and corruption such that facts are twisted and justice perverted which undermined natural justice and the ethics of the law profession", he said.
Mr Boafo reminded members of the legal profession that as they have been trained for integrity and justice they should always exhibit high professional competence and a deep sense of national integrity. He said to achieve a high level of confidence in the nation's judicial system, the government was working at increasing the number and calibre of judicial personnel, improve conditions of service and also furnish them with modern infrastructure.
The Rev Prof E.H. Ofori-Amankwaah, Dean of the Faculty of Law, KNUST, urged the judiciary to always declare the truth and stand by it. He said they should not be cajoled by any inducement of favour based on the personalities involved in any particular suit or contest under adjudication. 11 March 05
