108 victims of the unprecedented twin fire and rain disasters that afflicted Accra in June last year have been compensated.

City authorities are still going through the necessary processes to compensate the remaining victims, Accra Mayor Oko Vanderpuije announced at a memorial service held in honour of the over 150 people who died in the catastrophe, Friday.

“108 families have been taken care of. We are a people who care and recognizing and noticing that members of our families were affected, we put into action a plan to identify our dead brothers and sisters,” the mayor noted at the service held at the Rev. Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church at Adabraka in Accra.

President John Mahama who was at the service but did not speak had earlier tweeted “May the souls of those who departed on June 3, 2015, rest in perfect peace. We'll continue to correct dev's that led to the disaster”.

A heavy downpour on June 3, 2015, coupled with an explosion at the GOIL Fuel Station at the Nkrumah Circle in Accra claimed over 150 lives and injured about 154 persons.
