Demolitions are simply lousy, cheap and crude – Atik Mohammed

An aspiring General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, Atik Mohammed; has described the recent demolition of structures in the capital as “lousiest, cheapest and crudest,” ways of dealing with flooding in the capital.

The demolitions have been occasioned by the recent floods that hit the capital leading to the loss of several lives and the destruction of properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis.

Sharing his views on Peace FM's morning show, Kokrokoo; the current PNC policy analyst averred that the flooding problem in the capital had more to do with the lack of drains and the clogged nature of the few drains that are available.

He added his voice to condemnation of people who build in waterways and obstruct the flow of rain waters, but asked the city authorities to tackle the problem better than resort to pulling down people’s buildings.

On President Mahama’s call that the “blame game” be done away with, a week after the fire and flood disaster, Atik disagreed; stating that people had to stand up to responsibility, especially when their actions result in massive disasters as was witnessed.

The President’s call was during the interdenominational church service that was held to round off three days of national mourning that was declared by the President on June 4, a day after the twin disaster.
