Begoro (E/R), July 26, GNA - The Fanteakwa District Assembly realized 304.4 million cedis from internally-generated revenue for the first half of this year.

The amount represents 41.9 per cent of the estimated revenue of 726.1 million earmarked for the year.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, who disclosed this when addressing the general meeting of the Assembly at Begoro on Tuesday, attributed the low revenue generation to poor road network during the rainy season, absence of royalties from concessions and unwillingness of traders from the cities to pay approved fees on their wares.

He said a task force had been constituted to assist revenue collectors in their work, saying the Assembly was also compiling a nominal roll of eligible taxpayers to check revenue leakage in the district.

Mr Caesar said the Assembly would soon prepare the second phase of its Medium-Term Development Plan covering 2006 - 2009 and asked Assembly members and Heads of Department to identify their needs and make inputs into the plan.

The DCE said Electoral Area level People's Assemblies would begin this month in the district to interact with the populace.
