Former president John Jerry Rawlings has expressed his condolence to the family of renowned statesman K.B Asante who died Monday morning.
The former president who took to twitter to wish the former statesman a peaceful rest described him as a genuine Nkrumaist.
“Ghana has lost a true statesman. K. B. Asante was a gentleman, historian, public-spirited person, a patriot and a genuine Nkrumaist. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace Mr K. B. Asante.”
Ghanaians woke up to news about the death of the former statesman on Monday January 22, 2018.
K.B. Asante was the Secretary to Ghana’s First President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and also served as the Principal Secretary at African Affairs Secretariat from 1960 to 1966.
He is a product of the Achimota School then Achimota College, where he taught mathematics before proceeding to Durham University in Britain, where he obtained a BSc Mathematics in 1952.
He also became a member of the Institute of Statisticians in 1953, before returning to Achimota, where he again taught mathematics.
He was the author of the book “Voice from Afar” and a regular columnist in various newspapers in Ghana as well as an authority on historical and topical issues in the country.
