A pool of students at Koforidua drawn from the country's tertiary institutions defied a heavy storm last week to stage a demonstration in protest against the NDC government's imposition of school fees on tertiary institutions. The bloodshot students bore placards with inscriptions some of which read: "Education is a right not a privilege", Billy Goat, education is not for your mother", "Rawlings, remember your promise", "No fees". The students marched through some of the principal streets of Koforidua on their way to the Regional Administration where they presented a resolution to the Assistant Director for onward transmission to the Minister for Education. The resolution among other things said: "We condemn the statement made by the Minister of Education on the payment of fees in tertiary institutions with effect from the next academic year."
