The Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), will embark on a health walk in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi on Saturday, June 15, as part of activities to mark the World Blood Donor Day.

The activity for the day, which falls on Friday, June 14, is to draw public attention on the need to donate blood.

“Blood Saves Life, Safe Blood Starts with Me” is the theme for the occasion, which will provide an opportunity to thank all Voluntary Blood Donors Worldwide, whose donated blood have saved and continue to save lives.

In a statement signed by Dr Mrs Shirley Owusu-Ofori, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday said, six selected Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region, Voluntary unpaid blood donors, and some staff of KATH will take part in the Walk.

After the Walk, the group would converge at the forecourt of KATH’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centre where deserving Voluntary Unpaid donors will be awarded at a simple ceremony.

The group will also be given pep talks by some important dignitaries.
