KATH accepted as anti-retroviral therapy centre in West Africa

Kumasi, Feb 25, GNA - The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has been accepted as an HIV/AIDS Anti-retroviral Training Centre for the West African sub-region.

This was as a result of its excellent performance in the running of the specialist clinic at the hospital to provide quality health care to the People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).

Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Chief Executive Officer of the KATH, said this at a two-day performance review workshop for the staff of the hospital in Kumasi.

He said in its bid to befit the status of a centre of excellence in improving health care delivery in its catchment area, the KATH introduced innovative measures by creating more specialist clinics and units which were hitherto non-existent.

Dr Nsiah-Asare said networking and computerization project which took off at the hospital last year was expected to be completed by the end of the year and about 340 Internet points have been established to ensure hospital-wide Internet accessibility. "We must always make patients the focus of our operation and constantly remind ourselves that it is quality of service we give to the public that will determine the relevance of our existence." Dr Nsiah-Asare said as a way forward, efforts would be made by the government, staff and the management of the hospital to explore more ways to enhance staff and public welfare and improve working environment at the hospital this year.

Dr Kofi Asare, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, congratulated the staff and the management of the hospital for the achievement so far chalked over the years and urged them to work harder to improve the health care of the people.
