The Ghanaian Times, in another front page story says the authorities of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have uncovered the fraudulent withdrawal and pocketing of the salary of a doctor of the hospital who is said to have long vacated his post.

Dwamena Adonten, a former accountant of the hospital now on transfer to the Atibie Government Hospital identified as the architect of the deal, is said to have pocketed a total of 11.7 million cedis between June 1998 and April this year.

The report continue that after Dr. Osafo vacated his post, Adonten fraudulently transferred his salary from his accounts at the Harper Road branch of the Barclays Bank in Kumasi to the Kumasi branch of the Amanano Rural Bank in June 1998 and succeeded in withdrawing and pocketing Dr. Osafo's monthly salary.

Adonten, who is currently on a 15 million cedis police bail, was arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit Tribunal last week on charges of forgery and stealing.

The Dispatch: First lady's mum takes on 'Chronicle' and 'Accra Mail'

The Dispatch Reports in its lead story that Mrs. Felicia Agyeman, mother of the First Lady, Nana Konadu Ageman Rawlings, in the company of Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Grant, a member of the Council of State, has taken two independent news papers, the Weekend Chronicle and the Accra Mail to the National Media Commission (NMC).

The report quotes sources close to the NMC as saying that the complaint against the Weekend Chronicle was that they had used a picture of the First Family and had speculated whether one of the daughters was pregnant. Mrs. Agyeman said her grand daughter had been embarrassed since the story, which became the talk of her school, was a blatant lie.

It says the complaint against Haruna Attah of 'The Accra Mail', who is her son-in-law, was on two grounds. One was the reference to the First Lady as his "mother-in-law's daughter", (a term popularised by the late Prof. Paul Ansah), which Mrs Agyaman said gave room for all sorts of misinterpretations.

She was also not happy about last Monday's issue of the Accra Mail, with the main story headlined, "Konadu Bashing".

According to the report, when 'The Dispatch' phoned the chairman of the NMC, Mr Tim Acquah Hayford, for his comment on the issue, he shot back with "but who told you?" and when 'The Dispatch' insisted, he said "no comments".
