KATH doctors decide not to join strike action

Junior Doctors at the Komfo Amokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have decided not to join their colleagues at Korle-Bu who have withdrawn their services since Monday on grounds of on-going negotiations for better condition of service.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the hospital before 11 am on Thursday, the junior house officers were on their normal duties and there was the usual heavy influx at both the polyclinic and the specialist clinics with the normal busy atmosphere at the hospital.

A source close to KATH said the hospital administration met with the housemen on Wednesday and there is no indication of their intention to join the strike action, though some of them raised issues bordering on internal administration.

The source said "though we admit that the government has not been quick in its response to doctors plight and problems, the junior doctors had taken the wind out of the sail of the negotiating team which comprise the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the Laboratory Technicians Association and the Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) among others", the source added.
