KATH to establish cardio thoracic centre

Kumasi, June 16, GNA - The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi is to establish a Cardio Thoracic Centre to cater for heart patients in the northern sector of the country. The centre to be known as Kumasi Heart Institute will begin by the end of the year.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of the hospital, made this known at the inauguration of the refurbished intensive care unit of the main theatre of the hospital in Kumasi on Friday. The refurbishment, which included the installation of modern theatre equipment, was financed by the Asanteman Association of Hague, Holland at the cost of two billion cedis.


Dr. Nsiah-Asare said the hospital was trying to fulfill its vision of becoming a centre of excellence and thanked the donors for the gesture. He appealed to the association to encourage other sister association in other countries to assist the hospital to provide quality health care delivery to the people.


Baffuor Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, who cut the tape to inaugurate the centre on behalf of the Asantehene, commended members of the association for the initiative.

He said the hospital was currently embarking on a number of development projects to expand and improve health care delivery in the Ashanti region and urged them to encourage their colleagues in other countries to assist the hospital.


Mr Minka Tawiah, a representative of the association, said the gesture was the contribution of Asantes in Hague to assist the hospital to provide quality health care to the people of Asanteman.
