CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, has reacted to a viral video showing patients lying on the floor of the facility.

In the video shared by The1957News on X on March 21, 2026, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam stated that there are ongoing renovation works as one of the measures to contain the situation.

“We are doing innovation …we handed over to the engineer last Thursday for works to commence,” he is heard saying in the video which showed him reporting updates of the renovation to health minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who had visited the facility to ascertain the facts of the matter by himself.

The video captured several patients, some visibly frail and in need of urgent care, sleeping on the bare hospital floors.

The development comes within a period when there was an unfortunate death of Charles Amissah, a victim of a hit-and-run incident at the Nkrumah Circle Overpass in Accra, on February 6, 2026.

He was reportedly refused emergency care by three major hospitals in Accra, with the explanation that there were no available beds.

Subsequently, President John Dramani Mahama, during his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026, directed medical practitioners to attend to emergency cases even if it meant improvising a makeshift bed at their facilities.
