THE MAYOR of Kumasi, Hon. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has said the period of lawlessness during which the city was run by political patronage is over.

"We have a new KMA," he said, adding it is a proactive assembly which is not in place to reward law breakers.

Addressing a people's assembly in Kumasi last week, the Kumasi metro chief said the KMA was reversing the situation where land use rules were trampled upon by the officials and staff of KMA.

He identified indiscipline in land use control as a major challenge confronting the KMA.

Jumah, however, assured that more professionalism would be injected into decision making with regard to physical development in the city.

He said the KMA in implementing its bye-laws might step on toes but that must not stop the assembly from succeeding in its bid to instill sanity in the system.

The MCE has therefore cautioned residents to be law-abiding and live up to their civic responsibilities in order to enable the KMA pursue policies to enhance its service delivery to everybody.

MCE Jumah also cautioned residents to apply for permits before they start the construction of buildings.

On the proposed redevelopment of the Kumasi Central market, which was built in 1936, Jumah announced that a group of investors had visited Kumasi to see the possibility of funding the project estimated to cost $72million.
