KMA Impasse Baah-Wiredu Intervenes

HON. KWADWO BAAH-Wiredu, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has initiated moves to resolve the impasse between 30 aggrieved members of the KMA.

The group is calling for a meeting to pass a resolution against the Metro Chief Executive (MCE).

Last Friday, 30 signatories registered their displeasure about alleged administrative lapses by the KMA boss.

Hon. Baah-Wiredu, MP for Asante Akim North, told the Chronicle on Tuesday that his outfit, in collaboration with the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), assembly members and all interested parties, was taking steps to reconcile the emerging factions in the assembly

"We need peace to get the KMA moving," he said and pleaded with all parties to exercise restraint.

The minister said the call for a meeting by the group which formed a third of the House was legal but pointed out that it would take two-thirds to pass a resolution of no confidence in the MCE.

Baah-Wiredu stressed the importance of exhausting all procedures before taking radical steps.

"We need to work within the law, but at the same time there are a lot of procedures to adopt."

The minister, however, doubted if the group had actually utilized all available channels fully.

Among the channels were the Public Complaints and Public Relations Committees with which aggrieved assembly members could lodge formal complaints.

Once reports were made to these machinery the basis of the complaints would be established and appropriate steps taken to resolve them.

It was not known at the time of filing this report whether the emergency meeting scheduled for March 4, at the instance of the 30 aggrieved members, would be cancelled or not, following Hon.Baah-Wiredu's intervention
