Kumasi, March 2, GNA- The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has warned the public not to pay any money to anybody for the allocation of stores being built by the assembly around the Kumasi Kejetia.

A statement issued by the KMA in Kumasi on Tuesday, said it had come to the assembly's notice that some unscrupulous persons have been duping people of hundreds of millions of cedis under the pretext of allocating them stores being built by the assembly.

The statement said the payment of such money was unauthorised and its collection illegal as the KMA had not appointed any person or groups of persons to go round and collect money in respect of the allocation of the said stores.

The statement said the stores under reference were all pre-financed by the beneficiaries and as such there were no vacant stores waiting to be allocated.

It pointed out that like all KMA properties, beneficiaries who were pre-financing the project could not even transfer or re-allocate their assigned stores to others.

Consequently, it is impossible for anybody who pays any amount of money with the hope of being allocated one of the stores did so at his or her own risk.

The KMA advised all those who had paid various sums of money to individuals with the hope of being allocated some of the stores to go back for their money and report such persons to the police. The assembly asked anybody who wished to seek further clarification on the issue to see the Metro Engineer whose department was supervising the construction of the store project or the Estate and Public Relations Departments.
