Kumasi, Oct 13, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has developed a new computer software to link four key departments of the assembly to promote integrated and efficient service delivery in those departments.
The landmark computerization and networking of the Metro town and Country Planning, Engineers, Administration and Revenue departments of the assembly is aimed at fostering close link among the departments in order to fast track development, planning, administration and control systems of the assembly.
The software, which was developed by SAG Systems Limited, a Kumasi-based ICT consulting firm, offered opportunity for residents to apply for various services online and allows them easy access to information on services provided by the departments.
It will also allow the KMA to monitor development activities in the city and identify properties that were hitherto not captured by the assembly for taxation purposes.
It was developed with support from the City of Almere in Holland under the sister-city relationship between the KMA and Almere. Inaugurating it at a press briefing in Kumasi on Wednesday, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, KMA Chief Executive, said the project was part of the new definition of development his administration was trying to introduce in the metropolis.
He said lack of modern office equipment and infrastructure had contributed to the bureaucratic tendencies at the assembly and hoped the introduction of the ICT at the assembly would promote efficient service delivery and bring the assembly closer to the people in Kumasi and the rest of the world.
Mr Jumah said the software would link the street naming and zipcode numbering projects to make them more accessible to the public and commended the City of Almere for the assistance to develop the software.
Mr Isaac Acheampong, Project Manager of the City of Almere, said KMA would also benefit from training and exchange programmes for its staff under the five-year Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two cities in the sister-city relationship agreement.
