Kumasi, Oct 8, GNA- The Transport Commission of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has given squatters at Asafo Market at the Neoplan Station in Kumasi, two weeks to remove all unauthorised structures from the station or have them demolished by the assembly's task force.
The ultimatum was given at the end of a meeting between the commission and the executives of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Asafo market branch of the Union in Kumasi last Friday.
The meeting formed part of efforts at decongesting the area. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the meeting, Mr Atta Boafo, Chairman of the Commission, said the unauthorised structures contravenes the KMA bye-laws since the spaces are for parking of vehicles and not for any other business.
He said the exercise would help the KMA to relocate other transport unions, whose vehicles jam at the Kejetia terminal and ensure the free flow of traffic at the area
