The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has threatened action against advertising companies, organizations and individuals, who have erected billboards and sign boards in the metropolis without its authorization.

It said under section 79 of the Local Government Act 1993 (Act 462), it is an offence to erect, site or have a billboard or signboard within the area of authority of the KMA unless license had been obtained.

A press statement signed by Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame, the Public Relations Officer of KMA, gave offenders up to Tuesday, April 24, to do the right thing and pay the requisite fees.

Failure to comply with the directive, it warned, would leave the KMA with no option but to apply the appropriate sanctions against offenders.

The statement expressed dissatisfaction with the situation where some advertising agencies and other owners of billboards were reluctant to pay the necessary fees to the assembly.

It said it is the expectation of the KMA that all institutions and individuals in the advertising business will co-operate to avoid trouble.**
