The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised the Kumasi Metropolitan Authority to work seriously to develop satellite markets in the metropolis.

He said those projects were critical to decongest the Central Business District (CBD), while decentralizing trading activities for economic growth.

The Asantehene indicated that, with the population of Kumasi soaring by the day, it was appropriate for work on the redevelopment of the satellite markets to be executed on time to boost economic activities.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu cited the Asafo, Atonsu, Krofrom and Asawasi markets, amongst others, which he said, needed to be upgraded and put into good shape to attract traders to those markets.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the commemoration of the Eidul Fitr by the Ashanti Regional Muslim Community at the Central Mosque, Kumasi, on Saturday.

The feast comes after the Ramadan (30-days fasting period), and the ceremony brought together thousands of Muslims, who prayed for the nation’s development.

The Asantehene reminded Muslims of their obligation to live in harmony with other religious organizations to bolster peace and unity within the Ghanaian society.

He advised the leadership to mentor the youth positively to enable them to refrain from practices that do not bring sanity to the society.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu asked them to constantly reflect on the Ramadan and be guided by its principles and significance in their lives for their spiritual and physical well being.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haruna, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, entreated the congregation to be faithful Muslims, challenging them to demonstrate honesty and discipline at all times.
