KNUST Alumni elects Global Executive Committee

The Alumni Association of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has elected a new set of officers at an Extraordinary Congress in Koforidua.

The election concludes the 8th Biennial Congress of the body on Saturday December 13.

Members of the newly created Global Executive Committee (GEC) are: President, Eunice Akosua Ofosua Amoako, Tema Chapter; Vice President, Kwaku Agbesie, Koforidua Chapter; General Secretary, Harriet Annan, Kumasi Chapter, and Assistant General Secretary, Martin Gyekye-Ampofo, Kumasi Chapter.

Others are Treasurer, Sabina Anokye Mensah, Tema Chapter; First Executive Member, Evans Yevu Aryee-Quaye, Tema Chapter; Second Executive Member, Baffour Gyem Darkwa, Campus Chapter; Third Executive Member, Ernest Paa Kwasi Elelakpodia, Koforidua Chapter; and Fourth Executive Member, Yao Ababio, North American Chapter National President.

The rest are Immediate Past President, Tony Danklu, Tema Chapter as Ex-officio member.

The GEC President Akosua Ofosua Amoako on behalf of members thanked the delegates for reposing confidence and honour in them.

She pledged to lead in service, and would expect all alumni everywhere and anywhere to marshall all their resources and connections to restore and make KNUST a greater institution and by extension rescue Ghana from its retrogressive downhill free fall.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of KNUST Council and Past President of the Alumni Association; Dr Kwame Saarah-Mensah, the Vice Chancellor; Professor W. O. Ellis and Prof K. K. Adarkwah; Immediate Past Vice Chancellor and members of the Alumni Association.

The three-hour evening meeting, attracted 100 participants from 11 out of the 18 established Chapters globally, including Tema, Accra Airport Area, Ho, Takoradi, Koforidua, Kumasi, Campus, Wa, Sunyani and Bolgatanga. The North America Chapter President joined the meeting via internet.

Members of Africa- Unity Halls (Conti-Domi) Alumni Association were also present at the gathering, which reviewed and adopted the constitution after a thorough dispassionate discussion.

The review process was intended to make the constitution fit for contemporary and futuristic purposes with specific emphasis on the globalisation of the Association.

The highlights of the reviews to the constitution include a preamble, a permanent relocation of the Alumni Secretariat to KNUST Campus to be run by a full time Executive Director and Staff.

Membership of the Association has also been expanded to include past graduates and students of affiliated institutions as listed and recognised by the university.

Provision was also made for Corporate Membership and Institutional Chief Alumnus.

The great sacrifices made by Danklu, for the Association was acknowledged and he was honoured.
