On its establishment, in August 2003, the Faculty of Law, KNUST became the second Faculty of Law in Ghana and the first to be sited outside Accra; extending the opportunity of legal education in the country to a broader circle of interested persons.
Since taking off, from a humble beginning of just a few students and a handful of lecturers and administrative staff, the Faculty of Law, KNUST has risen to become a leader in excellence and innovation.
Over its 15 years of existence, the Faculty has trained very eminent lawyers, jurists and legal academics in addition to achieving many great feats in legal education nationally and globally; this calls for celebration.
The curriculum of the LLB programme offered by the Faculty has been expanded to include innovative courses in response to the present requirements of training world class lawyers.
Additionally, the Faculty, in the 2016/17 academic year, rolled out its Master of Laws (LLM) programme and is set to begin its PhD programme. The moot teams of the Faculty have participated in and won several laurels at various moot court competitions including the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the African Human Rights Moot Court competition and the Georgina T. Wood Moot Court competition; the brainchild of the Faculty.
The excellent academic training given to students at the Faculty of Law, KNUST reflects in their outstanding performance at the professional level of education.
Going through the records, since the call, to the Ghana Bar, of its first batch of graduates in October 2008, year after year, alumni of the Faculty have swept the prestigious John Mensah Sarbah award, for the overall best graduating student, and other subject areas awards at the Call to the Bar organised by the Ghana School of Law.
