KNUST Female Hall Desecrated

Facilities at Africa Hall, the only female hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana's Garden City,Kumasi, have been vandalized. In the process, the hall was smeared with human feaces and a telephone booth, destroyed.The hall’s Fish-pond was also filled with sand.

Students of the hall have accused students of the all-male University Hall (Katanga) of being responsible for the mess. According to them, the students of Katanga have set in motion a week-long action plan to cause mayhem at the all-female hall. The alleged action plan includes a scheme to rape the females.

The Africa hall ladies link this morning’s incident to a humiliation suffered by Katanga students at the hands of the ladies during their usual annual hall procession. The ladies are alleged to have hooted at the men and sacked them from their hall. Not happy about the incident, the men swore to avenge. This morning’s action is therefore seen to be a fulfillment of their promise.

The residents of Katanga hall have however denied the allegations. The hall president of Katanga, Nana Otuo Turkson insists that his colleagues know nothing about the incident.

According to him, students from any of the other halls at the university could have been the perpetrators of the shameful act. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor J. S. K. Ayim says the university will set up a committee to investigate the matter. He warned that those found liable will be dealt with.
