KNUST investigates GHC150,000 GNPC beauty pageant scandal

The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has commenced investigations into an alleged 150 thousand Ghana cedi cash corruption saga at the school’s female hall, Africa Hall.

The President of the Africa hall, Winnifred Abochi and her deputy Eunice Adjetey who have been fingered in the corruption have been asked to step aside and also barred from contesting any position in the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

It is unclear why the corporation set up to protect Ghana’s stake in the oil and gas sector will be donating money of such magnitudes for the hall’s annual beauty pageant.

It also comes at a time the minority in Parliament and the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) have raised several concerns that the GNPC has lost focus and is investing in concerns not core to its mandate.

Management of KNUST have indicated that an investigative team is being constituted to get to the bottom of the allegations.

University Relations Officer Kwame Yeboah told Starr FM’s Atiewin Mbila Lawson “normally matters of this nature, the management of the university gets involved and some procedures will have to be followed. A committee will be set up and they will get to the bottom of the matter.”
