Authorities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have expressed shock and worry over reports that a last year graduate of the school has joined the Islamic militant group Isis.

The spokesperson of KNUST Ankamah Lomotey has served notice the institution will investigate the existence of any group after news broke Nazir Nortei Alema has joined the militant sect.

“It’s a source of worry to hear. We have to look into the case… when the national security comes we’ll give them the student file,” he told Ultimate FM’s Joseph Oppong Brenya.

The 25-year-old graduate of KNUST is reported to have joined the Islamic extremist group in Iraq and Syria after a series of meetings at their Palm Wine Junction camp in Accra.

With a degree in Geography and Rural Development, he is one of the 10 suspected Muslim youth from Ghana who have finally taken the decision to join the terrorist grouping that engages in public beheading of their opponents or those they regard as infidels.

This development has brought fear and panic among students who believe the idea was conceived on campus.
