A nephew to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has hinted of a scientific breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

According to Gabby Otchere Darko, in addition to the research to find a vaccine and the local production of PPEs in the country, scientists at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have developed an indigenous Coronavirus test kit to boost Ghana’s testing capacity.

This comes a few days after researchers at the College of Engineering of the same institution invented an automated ventilator meant to help patients with breathing deficiencies and disorders.

Further information given by Mr Otchere Darko points to the fact that the test kits in question are currently being held under scrutiny by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to establish its quality and subsequent approval.

It would then be taken to the Noguchi research institute for authenticity test and further approval.

Gabby Octhere Darko made this announcement via a tweet on Monday, April 27, 2020.

His tweet read; “My information is that scientists at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) have developed a test kit for COVID-19, which is currently before the FDA for quality check and approval before it goes to Noguchi for efficacy test and approval. Fingers crossed...”
