Kumasi, Jan. 24, GNA - Plans are far advanced to establish a judicial court at the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to facilitate the teaching of law at the University.
Professor Kwesi Andam Vice Chancellor of the University who announced this said negotiations were also ongoing to establish the second Ghana Law School in Kumasi to enable legal practitioners in the northern sector to have the opportunity to contribute to the training of lawyers.
He was receiving 660 volumes of law books worth 40 million cedis presented by Dadson and Dadson Associates, a Kumasi-based legal firm to the Faculty of Law of the KNUST in Kumasi on Tuesday.
The books titled: "Ghana Supreme Court Judgements", were compiled by Paapa Dadson and Mr Kwasi Afrifa, both legal practitioners. Professor Andam said the faculty and library complex of the school would soon be completed to ensure its smooth operations. He said the long-term objective of the law school was to enable graduates from other faculties to have some basic knowledge in law to enable them to cope with outside situations.
Professor Andam thanked the donors for the gesture and said the books would help in the training of the students.
Paapa Dadson, Leading Counsel of the firm said most of the decisions of the Supreme Court were not reported and as such most students were not able to get an insight into those areas. He said the books would therefore help both lecturers and students to pursue their career.
Mr Dadson said his firm would continue to assist the faculty to produce high calibre lawyers in the country.
