KTI rampage: Students granted bail as house master seeks medical care

The Manhyia Divisional Police Command has begun investigations into the riots that occurred at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) in the Ashanti Region.

The students went on a rampage after the Senior House Master Domestic Peter Gamadzie confronted a student for wearing an unapproved outfit on campus.

Students incensed by the development rushed on the senior house master, assaulted him with sticks and stones

They later matched straight to their dormitories, classrooms and workshops vandalizing property ranging from vehicles, air conditioners, windows, doors and other departmental installations.

Police had it tough controlling the students and arresting their ring leaders ten of whom were picked up and later granted bail.

Manhyia Divisional police commander ACP Emmanuel Kwaku Boah described the extent of damage caused by the rampaging students of the Kumasi Technical Institute as disturbing.

He told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “it has become one too many for the same school to be coming into the news in a negative light and they have to be very cautious.”

Meanwhile, the students especially those in the final year are worried the situation will have dire implications on their final year exams.

The school authorities will however not speak to the media unless on the approval of the Ghana Education Service.
