KUMACA deaths: Return wards for medical evaluation - GES to Parents

The Ghana Education Service is appealing to parents who took their wards out of the Kumasi Academy Senior High School(KUMACA), to bring them back for critical medical examination.

This is to stem the spread of the suspected bacteria which has claimed four lives in the school.

Speaking on GBC's Current Affairs Programme, "Focus”, PRO of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey said the Deputy Education Minister and authorities from the Ghana Health Service are in Kumasi to assess the situation.

He urged parents and students not to panic as the Ghana Health Service is on top of the situation.

Rev. Bettey said the GES is in touch with authorities of the school and Ghana Health Service to advise them on how best to remedy the situation.

The Ghana Health Service has deployed more medical officers to Kumasi Academy as it broadens scope of investigations to find out the type of bacteria which has caused deaths at the school.

Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie said results of the final laboratory test will be ready Thursday.

Meanwhile, a Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Adu- Twum has assured parents who have their wards at Kumasi Academy that all steps will be taken to ensure the health and safety of their children.

He is asking parents to ensure that their wards avail themselves of thorough medical examination currently been administered on campus.

Dr. Adu- Twum was addressing the media in Kumasi Wednesday after a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Regional Directors of Education and Health on events at Kumasi Academy.
