The Kade District Magistrate’s Court on Friday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Lydia Dadzie, an unemployed woman, charged with stealing a mobile phone belonging to a student.

The phone was said to have been stolen on New Year Day at church service.

According to the Police prosecutor, Inspector Francis Cobbina, the complainant, Mary Asante, a student, and Lydia both lived at Kade.

He said on January 1st this year at about 0900 hours, Mary attended a Church Service at the Victory Zion Ministry Chapel at Kade Zongo.

At about 1300 hours, Mary was invited to lead in a song ministration and she got off from her seat leaving her Nokia mobile phone valued at GH¢85 behind.

Lydia, who was sitting behind Mary, took advantage of that situation and asked a witness in the case who was sitting in front of her to pick Mary’s phone for her since she (Mary) is her friend.

The prosecutor said Lydia after receiving the phone immediately left the church auditorium.

Mary on detecting that her phone was missing made an announcement to that effect.

The witness informed Mary that Lydia asked that the phone be picked for her claiming that she was her friend.

Later in the day, Mary approached the mother of Lydia, who then convinced her daughter to produce the phone which she did.

The prosecutor said it was later detected that, the two SIM cards in the phone were missing when Lydia returned the phone to Mary.

On January 2nd a report was made to the Police and Lydia was arrested.

During interrogation, Lydia admitted stealing the phone and after investigation she was charged with the offence and put before court and later granted bail.

She, however, jumped bail on the next adjourned date.
