Kalyppo organises free screening for children

Children from Madina, Kwabenya, Jamestown and Tema all benefited from the program that started off a month ago with each community being targeted per week.

Dubbed “Kalyppo Kares”, it aimed at providing children in the targeted communities with much needed healthcare services such as screening for oral infections and checks on personal hygiene, blood sugar level, anemia, Body Mass Index, ear infection among others.

The project also sought to educate children as well as their parents on preventive health, healthy lifestyles and proper eating habits.

Giving his assessment of the month-long project, Project manager, Chris Nana Ampadu described the project as very successful saying the set targets had been far achieved.

He stressed that there was indications the populace showed little concern about their personal health.

“I think people don’t really pay attention to their children at all. Most of the problems with the kids were their oral health and then their physical wellbeing. In Tema, half of the children we screened had sores on different parts of their bodies” he stated.

He added that, “Jamestown for instance had children below 8 years smelling very badly. I don’t know what that means for a kid growing up but if we are going to have youths that can change the future, I think at least we should prioritize their health and wellbeing.”

Mr. Ampadu however commended the medical team for efficiently managing the overwhelming number of children as well as the management of Kalyppo for making resources available to undertake the project.

He further assured the public of Kalyppo’s commitment to the wellbeing of its customers hinting, the project will soon be piloted in other regions of the country.

Speaking to Univers news at the end of the event, CEO of Sangy Nursing Services, Mrs. Sara Nana Yeboah said she was excited about the turn up as the children screened far exceeded the expected number. She revealed that initial anticipations were revised upon identifying the increasing number of participating children from the first event in Madina.

She however called on parents to take seriously issues relating to the health of their children saying that there was a great level of negligence on the part of some parents whose children took part in the health screening exercise.

Mrs. Yeboah also called on more corporate organizations to emulate Kalyppo and support health related initiatives to arrest the declining level of interest in the health of the entire citizenry.

In total, over 2,000 children were screen with more than 2,500 reporting to the venue to participate in other fun activities.
