Some irate youth of Karaga in the Northern Region believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party have chased out the Chief Executive for the Karaga District, Mr Alhassan Yabdow, from his residence for allegedly causing the arrest of two of their people.

The group stormed the residence of the DCE Wednesday at about 1:00am to demand the release of the two persons who were said to be part of a gang that burnt a motorbike belonging to the District Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mohammed Baba Osman.

Mr. Yabdow was said to have been invited by the NPP Constituency Chairman, Tahiru Zakaria Goora, to explain why some non NPP members they termed aliens, were being employed into the YEA by Osman.

The said meeting, which took place late Tuesday night, according to the youth, ended abruptly due to a misunderstanding between the DCE and the NPP chairman.

A member of the youth, Alhassan Fuseini, told 3News that the DCE was “disrespectful” hence he could not be allowed to continue disrespecting their Chairman “who suffered for the party to come to power”.

The youth allegedly threatened the DCE who according to Fuseini, later brought some military men in a saloon car to arrest two of their members and handed to the Police at Karaga.

They angry youth stormed the Police station to demand the release of their members.

At the station, the YEA Coordinator who had earlier refused an invitation from the NPP chairman, showed up.

But for the timely intervention of the Police, he would have been assaulted by the youth. They managed to take out Osman’s motorbike which was under Police protection and few metres from the station, they burnt the motorbike.

After, they proceeded to the DCE’s residence, forcing him to flee for his life.

They are demanding the dismissal of the DCE and have vowed to ensure he does not return to his office and the district.

They have consequently locked his office. “Some job opportunities such as Zoomlion should be reserved for only supporters of the NPP who are not educated and can’t fit in offices but that’s not the case hence the impasse”, Alhassan Fuseini told 3News.

Meanwhile, the two persons who were arrested have since 1:40am Wednesday been released by the Police, sources told 3News.
