A THREE THOUSAND cubic-metre capacity water storage reservoir, which is equivalent to three million litres, has been commissioned for the continuous supply of water for Kasapreko Company Limited (KCL).

With the multi-purpose reservoir in place, management is assured of continuous employment to the local people of the area, for the reason that when there is water, the Company can always produce and this will keep businesses around going. Hence, no water no jobs.

The reservoir, which was procured from Horsley Bridge Tanks of the United Kingdom, took 12 weeks to be assembled at a location of about 150 metres away from the premises of the Company.

The tank is filled with water from the Ghana Water Company Limited which goes through reverse osmosis before another machine pumps the purified water to Kasapreko site. The reservoir, which is filled with water all the time, can deliver about 35 cubic metres of water an hour

Les Banks Irvine, a German Consultant to the KCL, said the purpose of installing the reservoir is to ensure that any time GWCL is in short supply of water due to the perennial water shortage that invariably affect Accra, KCL is guaranteed of uninterrupted production.

“We cannot rely directly on GWCL all the time. And because of the new production lines the Company is putting in place, we should be able to constantly get water to produce for the high demand from our consumers. KCL developing new products and go into the export market and grow,” he opined.

The expansion project, which is about 99 per cent complete, involves the installation of a state-of-the-art equipment on a 7,500 square metre land, and is quoted to be the best ever technology used to produce alcoholic beverages in the world.

The plant has the highest machine speed spirit line across the globe, and two state-of-the-art bottling lines, with one producing 30,000 bottles an hour while the second one produces 40,000 an hour. It is being managed by Les Banks, an International Technical Consultant.

To effectively and efficiently handle the new plant, the company will engage 12 university graduates to operate the equipment. They are expected to leave for Germany to undergo training while the plant is being installed.

Clarence Amenyah, Marketing Manager of KCL was of the view that the commissioning of the water tank marks another milestone in the annals of KCL and that this will better position the company to ensure continuous availability of its products.

He said, “We want to ensure that we are constantly delivering the products to our consumers without any hitch even though we rely on GWCL. The reservoir will serve as a backup so that where there is no water, the tank is there to supply us water so that we will continue to deliver our great products to our cherished consumers, not only is Ghana, but to Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the Sub-Region, as well as positioning ourselves to supply into other Regions of Africa. We will continue to ensure that quality is not compromised.”

After exporting its products to some West African countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin and Cote d'Ivoire, management KCL is overwhelmed by the growing market demand.

As part of measures to meet the increasing market demand for its products in the sub-region and beyond, management says it has invested over US$30 million in the expansion project.

The expansion project, which is expected to be commissioned soon, would open doors for more jobs and for that matter more revenue for Ghanaians, and boost the economy of the country.

KCL, which started from a very humble beginning in 1989, has come of age and has thus registered its presence on the International market. And so the decision to buy the best technology and invest in the human resource base and maintain its recognition globally was in the right direction.

The Marketing Manager said the company is leaving no stone unturned in expanding its operations and products to the nooks and crannies of the world and for that matter become a major African player as a precursor to becoming a global player, but was quick to say that it is going to take a lot of hard work and resources.
