Kassena Nankana East District gets development projects

Navrongo (U/E), Feb 18, GNA - The Kassena Nankana East District Chief=

Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Andema, has said his assembly is undertaking development projects to boost infrastructure in the area. He told the GNA in an interview that the assembly was spending one million Ghana cedis on projects in sectors such as education, health and sanitation and some of the projects are near completion.

The projects include seven three-unit classroom blocks and funded by t= he European Union (EU) under the District Wide Assistant Project (DWAP) and the construction of a rehabilitation Centre for People with Disabilities (PWD= s). Others include a number of Community Health Based Planning Services (CHPS) Compounds to far-to-reach areas as a measure to get healthcare services to the doorsteps of rural people.

Mr. Andema said the assembly was working around the clock to ensure=

that a number of communities are connected to the national electricity gr= id. He said some roads in the area are under rehabilitation and expresse= d the hope that the move would link the communities to speed up development= .. Mr. Andema said the assembly had voted 22,000 Ghana cedis for the re-gravelling of the Navrongo main lorry park. The assembly is also collaborating with development partners such as=

the Calabash Foundation, a non-governmental organization, to provide portable water to some deprived communities in the district. The NGO has provided two mechanized boreholes to the Manyoro and th= e Akurugu Dabore communities.

Mr Andema called for the support and cooperation of communities as the assembly seeks to provide them with development projects. He appealed to people in the district to activate their communal spir= it to enable them undertake self initiated projects and "in so doing the assembly can come out to help." Mr. Andema said with support from some developmental partners, the assembly sponsored girls to continue their education in Junior and Senior=

High Schools, adding that the assembly had given special attention to Girl-Child education.
