Kawampe (B/A), June 14, GNA - The authorities of Kawampe Junior High School (JHS) in the Kintampo North Municipality, have appealed for a new classroom block to replace the existing weak structure.
Mr Charles F. Jetong, Assistant Head Teacher, said the building the school was using for classes was in such a poor shape that it had become a major disincentive for effective academic work.
The roof leaked so badly thereby turning the water collected on the muddy floor into pools.
He said the teachers and pupils were forced to end classes abruptly anytime it threatened to rain.
Mr Jetong made the appeal when the Management of 93Solar 4 Ghana" presented 60 solar lanterns to the school.
Nana Asante Frempong, Director of the Company, said the lanterns, which comes with rechargeable batteries were meant to aid the students to study during the night as there was no electricity in the community.
The unit cost of the lantern is GH¢65.00, but a German philanthropist has funded GH¢40.00 of the price, leaving the beneficiary pupils to pay GH¢25.00
He said the goal of the company was to support every child to have access to a solar lantern.
Nana Frempong said a number of schools in deprived communities in Ashanti and Volta Regions had been presented with the lanterns. He advised the pupils to put them to good use to improve their academic performance.
