As Alfred Woyome Sues for Defamation
In parliament, he hardly makes any contribution to useful discussions on the floor, outside, Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin North constituency and businessman has earned an unenviable record of being a loose talker and is often caught in the web of credibility and moral character, anytime he attempts to get involve in important national arguments and discourse.
Now his talk has landed him in trouble, as NDC stalwart, Alfred Agbesi Woyome has sued him for opening his mouth too loud and embarking on a vicious, malicious and deliberate attack on him Alfred Woyome’s hard earned reputation. He would have to meet Alfred Woyome in Court to defend the filthy and irresponsible statements he made on the airwaves last week, whilst his prey was away in America.
Kennedy Agyapong, who until recently has been battling with allegations, that he has enriched himself with ‘drug money’, last week without any provocation, launched a verbal attack on Mr. Woyome including allegations that, Alfred Woyome has wrongfully, been paid an amount of GHc41,000,000 by the NDC government for no work done.
Foul mouth, Kennedy Agyapong also alleged that “for no work done, the Attorney General failed to appear in court and the court also granted Woyome an amount of GH?41,000,000.”
In a claim, of direct service to Kennedy Agyapong, Mr. Alfred Woyome who is the current Chairman of the National Board for Small Scale Industries avers that, the former deliberately referred to and called him several unprintable names thereby defaming his character.
Among the relief’s being sought against the loud mouth MP, are; aggravated or exemplary damages, against the defendant, for defamation in the sum of GHc1,000,000.00, a declaration that the statements, comments and publications made of and concerning the Plaintiff the subject of the suit are defamatory of the plaintiff.
The plaintiff further requires an injunction to restrain Kennedy Agyapong and his agents, servants from further publishing injurious statements and words about him.
Alfred Woyome in his statement of claim stated that “on or about the 5th, 6th, and 8th or 13th December 2011, Kennedy Agyapong was on a number of Radio Stations namely Oman Fm, Adom Fm, Hot Fm and Citi Fm, ETV and Metro TV at various times and without any provocation used various defamatory words against him (Alfred Woyome) and attacked his reputation maliciously”. The ill-informed allegations made by Kennedy Agyapong were also reported by The Chronicle Newspaper, whose discredited Editor; Ebow Quansah is unflinchingly, championing anti-government agenda.
Mr. Woyome contends that, the comments and statements made against him by Kennedy Agyapong were motivated by malice and intended to cause hatred, disparity, ridicule and injury to his hard earned reputation in Ghana, Internationally, his political career and family, including right thinking people in society.
According to the plaintiff, (Alfred Woyome) Kennedy Agyapong’s defamatory comments were not only carried and aired by radio stations, but reviews of the comments and statements of the Defendant were posted on various websites and tapes, the defamatory comments and statements made by the defendant was also available on the internet for the whole world to download.
Mr. Woyome stressed that, as a politician, a businessman, a financial Engineer, a Diplomat and a family man, his reputation and trustworthiness is his primary asset and that the statements made by the Kennedy Agyapong has injured him. The one-time Honorary Consul of the Austria Consulate in Ghana further declared that, the public or any person deserves to know that, he the plaintiff for several years has been in the business of financial engineering for the government of Ghana that led to the construction of three District Hospital in the country within the past 10years.
Giving an account of his background, Mr. Alfred Woyome avers that he was the Deputy Consul of Austria in Ghana for two years until he resigned in the year 2009 and that he is a respectable member of the diplomatic community in Ghana. “Plaintiff avers that throughout his life he has worked hard to earn the enviable respect and confidence of his peers, the generality of the Ghanaian public and the international community for which reason the plaintiff is a highly respected member of the Ghanaian Community.”
